Day to day life is full of responsibilities and each day we are not aware of our posture: sitting, standing or even sleeping. How we live, day to day, does have a profound effect on our body. Maybe this is a simple way to see our posture from a new set of eyes.
Awareness is definitely the beginning to any journey. We can definitely help you at Orthopedic Massage Therapy!
I remember years ago, talking with family or friends about posture. So many people were just not aware or it was difficult to maintain posture. So if you have tried to improve your posture but its painful or difficult. Orthopedic Massage Therapy makes it easier. What I have truly learned is, it is so much easier to have body work: Orthopedic Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Therapy or Massage Therapy. Then, begin working on improving or maintaining your posture. Start now, but again make it a lot easier with the help of some sort of hands on therapy. Especially therapy that would be specific to what your body needs. A trained professional will know how to take care of you. By way of what is studied with respect to the profession studied. Always know that when you are improving your body, by having Orthopedic Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Therapy, Massage Therapy or any type of Physical Body Therapy. You are improving function and improving your health and well being!
Gravity does not stop, for any part of life on earth. A client once said to me ”Gravity is pulling us all down!” So first, there is nothing wrong with Gravity. It is actually a Wonderful Positive Blessing and because of it we can actually live life from a Positive Perspective.
Understanding bad posture: Without gravity we would all float. This would be okay, if we did not need a physical body to move. Our body needs gravity to move from one spot to another and we have to push against gravity in order to move. When I was in the 7th grade, I had cosmetic surgery on my left hand. Removing a webbed finger. I wore a cast as part of the healing process and I remember my left hand and arm atrophied while I wore the cast. Any person that has to use a cast, for whatever reason. Has experienced loss of muscle and tightness, not to mention other details of the healing process. For blood to circulate, muscles contracting keeps venous blood moving back to the heart. So as a muscle contracts, this contraction is what pushes the blood back to the heart. And the heart is a very powerful muscle and pushes blood to the entire body. When we exercise, especially aerobic exercise, we are moving blood throughout the entire body. The stronger our bodies become will make it a whole lot easier to maintain your posture. And having body work will also make it just that much easier!
First, improving your posture is extremely healthy for You! Think of a plant, when a plant is not watered, it will begin wilting. I love explaining that health and wellness is active. Improving posture will also help our mind.
To make it simple, if I don’t take a shower in the morning, the world will not come to an end. Or if I don’t brush my teeth, my teeth will be okay… But it is in my best interest (and others) for me to brush my teeth, shower and get a massage. Health and wellness is active: from taking care of hair, fingernails or toenails, teeth, drinking water, healthy food, sleep (not a lot or too little), exercise, massage therapy and the list goes on…
Pay attention and be aware of how you are sitting or standing. Think of a neutral position, such as the position of your spine, shoulders, knees and feet. People should be able to stand straight with their weight equally divided between both of their legs. Where can you improve when it comes to sitting or standing? It should feel comfortable to sit or stand straight. Any area or areas of discomfort can be improved with orthopedic massage therapy or any type of body that is specific to your needs. And make it comfortable to be in your own body. When there is discomfort, body work: Orthopedic Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Therapy, Massage Therapy or some type of Physical Body Therapy will help. Especially when it’s specific body work to why there’s discomfort. Areas of discomfort, think of creating balance and correcting what is out of balance in the body. And then orthopedic massage therapy to the exact area or areas needed. I can not tell you how many people that have told me after working with them. “I had to raise my rear view mirror in my car! I’m sitting a lot straighter!” This is after receiving orthopedic massage therapy because of some type of body pain. Now is the time to maintain and strengthen your body. And there is definitely a compounding effect over time with continued body work which improves overall structure and function.
