Massage Therapy Improving Balance, Posture and Flexibility!
To improve posture, balance and stability this would include core muscles that attach to the front of the pelvis and thoracic/lumbar spine. A form of massage therapy that works to open these muscles is myofascial release. Fascia is a three-dimensional matrix that is made up of connective tissue that absolutely covers the entire or whole body! This connective tissue would be muscle, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and joints. While massage therapy is a positive benefit for fascia! This network of connective tissue can contribute to how circulation moves through our body. It can contribute to tight muscles due to exercise or repetitive movements with life or sports! Tight muscles that I see people wanting to stretch but still not feeling the benefit of stretching. This is from tight fascia. While stretching is very important, fascia is a connective tissue that stretching is not enough to release this tension on posture, flexibility, or function. Working with the musical Cats, taught me the importance of myofascial release to muscle that has fascial tension. Massage therapy is a wonderful tool for releasing this connective tissue we call fascia.
Myofascial Release is a form of massage therapy that releases the grip of this fascial matrix we are talking about. I have seen body building equipment that will assist with lifting heavy weights. This is called a singlet, and I would consider this like a brace. The importance of a singlet is like tight fascia, in that it holds everything tight and assisting with form, posture during a workout to lift heavy weights. Remember with massage therapy, this matrix called fascia is improved!
Going to another level, with specific myofascial release treatments and combined stretches in the order of its tension or tightness. Will greatly reduce the tightness we feel and think about as needing stretching. At a closer look it is tight fascia.
